About Senator Dan Gibbs

Dan Gibbs' Colorado roots are in Gunnison, where he enjoyed the outdoors and participated in his community at a young age. Dan's mother and father, teachers who later became elementary and high school principals respectively, taught him the importance of family, life-long learning, and community service. Their influence led Dan to pursue a career in public service and community improvement.

As Director of U.S. Congressman Mark Udall's office in Minturn, Colorado, Dan managed issues dear to Colorado, including education, transportation, public lands usage, water, and the environment.

Dan has worked with local communities to address specific issues that are important to the citizens of Clear Creek, Gilpin, Grand, Summit, Boulder and Jefferson counties, including addressing issues of wildfire preparedness, negotiating wilderness proposals, brokering land exchanges, and reinstating recycling programs at U.S. Post Office facilities in Summit County. Dan is also proud of organizing an after school program with local high school students, encouraging them to get involved with the local issues in their communities.

Prior to his current position, Dan spent one term in Colorado's House of Representatives. In his time there, Dan introduced several bills which ultimately passed the State Legislature and were signed into law by Governor Bill Ritter. These included bills to make our roads safer, develop energy in a way that safeguards the public health and environment, and fight the pine beetle epidemic.

Dan is involved or has been involved with these local and regional organizations: Governor Ritter's Forest Health Advisory Committee, the I-70 Coalition, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, the Northern Bark Beetle Cooperative, Rotary Club, Lion's Club, Habitat for Humanity, Trout Unlimited, the Colorado Tourism Office, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He is also a Ducks Unlimited committee member and a co-chair of the Colorado General Assembly Sportsmen's Caucus. Dan has been involved in youth activities as a buddy mentor for a Youth Mentor Program as well as a participating as a high school ski coach. He is also a certified Type II Wildland Firefighter.

Dan is looking to continue his public service in the Colorado State Senate, representing the people of Senate District 16.

Dan is a resident of Summit County, Colorado, where he enjoys all that living in the Heart of Colorado has to offer such as telemark and cross- country skiing, bicycling, hiking, white-water kayaking, hunting, and fishing. He has also competed in numerous running races, including the Leadville Trail 100.

Dan Gibbs is a graduate of Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and understands the unique challenges that our district community - which spreads along the front range, in the foothills, and through the mountains - faces with respect to water, growth, economic development, education and transportation needs.
